Each student is allocated a personal tutor who they will see once a week to discuss their progress and any problems which they may be experiencing. A strong pastoral approach ensures that extra support is made available where a need is identified. The personal tutor has regular meetings with all subject teachers and monitors each students progress.
Regular homework and frequent tests help us to chart the performance of each student and to ensure that they are not under-performing or finding a particular course unsuitable. In the case of the latter, we would allow a student to change their course should the timetable permit.Attendance checks are made at the start of each lesson and parents are immediately informed of absence or repeated lateness.
Reports
Regular contact with parents is actively encouraged and written reports are sent to parents during the Autumn and Spring Terms.
We encourage parents who wish to discuss other issues with us to phone and make mutually convenient appointments. It is in the student's best interests for lines of communication to be open for them to be able to achieve the best of their ability. Both the support of home and college is essential.
Parents Evening
Parents evenings are held in December and April of each academic year.
Mock Examinations
Full mock examinations are held in the Spring term where students are given the opportunity to gain formal practice under examination conditions.
Careers and University Advice
To assist with university applications students are given extensive guidance and support.
After attending a general talk about the UCAS process, each student is then individually advised about university options. Particular attention is given to writing effective personal statements, the completion of the UCAS form itself and in selecting appropriate courses.
Where necessary, students may also attend mock interview practice sessions.
We can offer extensive guidance to those students who may be looking towards applying to study vocational courses. In some fields it may also possible for us to arrange "work shadowing" placements.
During the spring term guest speakers from a variety of professions are invited to give careers lectures at the college, when the students have an opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the working life provided within those careers.
Medical Applications
All prospective medical candidates are given specific help in preparing their applications. Students are formally assessed by means of a mock interview. Special attention is also given in the writing of personal statements.
